Sport and leisure

From rugby to raft building, Salford has it all!

Super League rugby league team, Salford Red Devils, and rugby union side Sale Sharks play at the AJ Bell Stadium in Barton, while Salford City Football Club, owned by former Manchester United players David Beckham, Gary Neville, Phil Neville, Nicky Butt and Ryan Giggs, play at the Peninsula Stadium.

The famous Old Trafford football stadium is just a few minutes’ walk from Salford Quays.

For golf lovers, we have five courses, including the premier course at The Worsley Marriott Park Hotel and Club.

Salford Watersports Centre at Salford Quays offers taster sessions, courses and clubs in sailing, windsurfing, kayaking, canoeing, raft building, and more, while The Quays hosts a range of water events, such as the Dragon Boat Race, Two Universities boat race and open water swimming competitions. There are also river cruises, from short trips around the Quays to half day adventures further afield.

Salford is a great place for cyclists, with networks of paths and cycle routes on former railway lines, known as looplines, perfect for leisure, enjoying the wildlife or even a traffic-free way of getting to work. There are also great cycling opportunities to enjoy at our country parks.
