Public sector

High numbers of jobs within the public sector showcase what an important sector this is for the city and its economy.

The University of Salford and Salford City College are major employers in the education sector. Along with schools and other skills organisations they provide over 8,000 jobs in the city.

Salford City Council provides around 3,500 jobs, while HMRC is set to bring 2,400 people to its new City Centre Salford base.

Salford Royal NHS Foundation Trust is a major employer, with 6,000 employees based at the hospital and in the community.

The city’s Public Sector brings a wealth of professional and technical expertise and offers opportunities for collaboration with private sector in a vast range of areas.
